Basic KCI History

  • Key Club was founded in May 1925 at Sacramento High School in California by the Kiwanis Club of Sacramento
  • Originally a fraternity-combating vocational guidance program, Key Club would become a service club patterned after Kiwanis.
  • Kiwanians sponsored more Key Clubs with the aid of supportive principals and school boards. In 15 years, there were 50 clubs across the United States.
  • In 1939, Florida formed the first Key Club District. In 1946, Key Club became an international organization.
  • Key Club continues to grow rapidly. Every year, 200+ new Key Clubs are added to this fast growing organization.
